Playtime 2 - Guns, Guns, and more Guns

Sup, Justin here again to report on my playtime for the week. I'm a little late (a lot late) on the ball for this one but that's because I was busy getting ready for the Global Game Jam. Anyways, let me tell you what I played this week.

As always, I have been playing more PSO2. Could call it an addiction, but I play almost everyday. Though this week I have been playing a little less, which is surprising because they is actually a lot of events going in PSO2 this week. Makes me really want to login right now. Other then PSO2, I have played quite a few games this week. I dabbled playing the Monster Hunter Rise demo, doing a few quick hunts to judge the gameplay changes. And also tried out some of the new gameplay modes in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, specifically the Randomizer mode, spend a few hours trying to complete a randomized run of the game, very fun.

What I spend most of the week playing, was Synthetik: Legion Rising. Synthetik is a top-down roguelike twin stick shooter. You fight through floors and floors of androids and robots, finding new weapons and items each time you play. You start by choosing one of eight classes: Riot Guard, Breacher, Sniper, Assassin, Raider, Heavy Gunner, Engineer and Demolisher. Each play very differently and have different abilities, for example, Riot Guard has a shield and defensive abilities, Assassin allows you to go invisible for a few seconds, and Engineer allows you to recycle items and deploy a turrets. Each run has several levels that contain a number of floors, and after exploring several floors you reach the last floor of the level and face a boss. The goal in the game is to survive through four levels and destroy the Final Defender who is protecting the Heart of Armageddon.

The story in the game is very simple, that you play as a prototype android with an human consciousness out to stop the "Machine Legion", an army of AI robots out to end humanity, You storm the Kaiba Corp. Headquarters, the Machine headquarters, to defeat the machine horde. Basically, you battle through floors of robots to end the AI machine Armageddon. The game itself features very little of this story except the fighting robots part, choosing to focus more on the gameplay. Or should I say, gunplay, because man this game loves it guns. Each run you start with a starter weapon and find new guns when you explore. There so many guns in the game, from standard ones like rifles and shotguns to real sci-fi weapons that shoot lasers or Ricocheting bullets. There are also very special weapons that have their own unique properties and abilities. And a big part of the gunplay in the game revolves around reloading and managing the "heat" of your guns. Rather then reloading being the standard one button process, guns reload by pressing a button to eject the empty magazine from the clip of the gun and another button to reload. During the reloading animation the player can press the reload button again to shorten the time it takes to finish reloading, called an active reload. Guns can also overheat from shooting too much too fast, and can also randomly jam, forcing the player to mash the button the unjam the gun. This unique approach to gunplay is one of the major draws to the game.

If you love gun porn and interesting gunplay, I'd definitely recommend this game. Check it out, and hopefully you don't get jammed.
